Three Raleigh Women Wanted More LGBTQ+ Community—so They Built Their Own

Founded in late 2024, local organization For the Girls has become a popular haven for queer women across Wake County and beyond. Three women from the North Carolina Triangle, Paige King, Samantha Kublin, and Annie Rasheva, have cofounded For the Girls, an organization aimed at building a female LGBTQ+ community in Raleigh. The group's goal is to help women like themselves feel less alone and more connected. The first event, a Halloween party at Glenwood Avenue’s Dogwood Bar and Eatery, saw over 100 queer women (as well as non-binary and trans individuals) unite to celebrate the holiday at the bar. The founder and members of the group, who have over 3,500 followers on Instagram, also expressed their desire for more events. The events, which average between $10 and $15, often benefit local nonprofits.
