Crews have begun removing the damaged pavement and grading the road bed for paving, but high tide overwash continues to be an issue along that section. They will re-establish a one-lane paved detour and install sandbags to protect the roadway. Once the sandbags are in place, they will restore a two-lane roadway. The highway remains closed between Marc Basnight Bridge and Rodanthe.
