Social media comment has some local business owners cutting ties with Shop Local Raleigh

A Facebook comment in an online networking group is causing a stir among some of Raleigh's small business owners. A Facebook comment by Jennifer Martin, the executive director of the Greater Raleigh Merchant's Association (GRMA), has led to some small business owners cutting ties with Shop Local Raleigh. The comment, which was posted on the group's Facebook page, stated that "there's no such thing as a transgender son" and suggested that the sooner a parent's transgender son was educated about this. Other local business owners, including Be Like Missy's Erica Vogel, also announced their withdrawal from participating in events hosted by the organization. A Change.org petition has been launched calling for Martin to be held accountable for the comment.
