'Military ordnance' found in backyard of Cary home, police say

Police said an “old military ordnance” was found on Wednesday at a Cary home.

According to the Cary Police Department, a homeowner on the 600 block of Kings Fork Road, just south of downtown, found the ordnance while landscaping in their backyard.

Authorities said while the exact origin of the device is under investigation, it is believed to be the property of the home’s previous owner, now deceased, who was a retired military veteran.

Cary police, the Raleigh Police Department’s bomb squad and other officials are working to remove the device.

“We would like to remind all residents to exercise caution if they come across any suspicious objects or devices. It is important to immediately report such findings to local authorities and not attempt to handle or move them on their own,” Cary police said in a statement to WRAL News.
