Nearly 3 years after devastating fire, Durham church reopens its doors
Almost three years after a devastating fire gutted their building, the Charity Christian Fellowship Church congregation finally has a place to worship again. The congregation of Charity Christian Fellowship Church in Durham, North Carolina, has reopened its doors nearly three years after a devastating fire destroyed their building. The church had been closed since the COVID-19 pandemic and had planned to reopen its doors later that year. However, a phone call from Pastor Shawlin Dunn alerted the congregation that their building was on fire on Nov. 4, 2023. The damage was so severe that some congregants doubted their ability to recover. The congregation continued holding services, gaining new members from across the country, while church leaders rebuilt the interior. The grand reopening of the church on Oct. 25, 2026, marked the church's 35th anniversary in the community.
