DUNN, N.C. (WNCN) — A woman and man on a motorcycle were killed when they were hit from behind by the driver of a pickup truck in Harnett County near Dunn Saturday night, officials said.
The incident was reported just after 9:50 p.m. along Meadowlark Road, nearly a mile north of Dunn, according to North Carolina State Highway Patrol Trooper B.R. Grady.
Before the crash, two people were on a motorcycle that lacked tail lights while it was heading north along Meadowlark Road, Grady said.
The driver of a pickup truck was heading in the same direction at a “high rate of speed” when it hit the rear of the motorcycle, officials said.
Both people on the motorcycle were ejected as the vehicle went off the left side of the road, Grady said.
The motorcycle driver, Robert Curtis Hair, 43, and the rider Chesley Anne Bowden, 33, both of Dunn, died from injuries they suffered in the crash, according to Grady.
After the crash, the pickup truck went down the left shoulder and eventually crashed in a ditch, he said.
The driver of the truck, a 26-year-old man from Dunn, was not injured. So far, no charges have been filed in the crash.
Grady said the motorcycle had a working headlight but was possibly stolen. The VIN had been partially removed from the motorcycle, which also was not registered, he said.
No other information was released about the wreck.
