What If NC State Really Hires Philip Rivers as the Next Head Coach?
The recently vacated NC State head coaching job has generated a lot of buzz, with one name rising to the top of the list. Former NC State quarterback Philip Rivers is considered a strong contender for the position of head coach at the school. Rivers, who holds many school and ACC records, led the ACC and NCAA in most major passing categories during his four seasons as quarterback for the Wolfpack (2000-2003), led the Wolf Pack to an 11-3 record and earned ACC Offensive Player of the Year and ACC Player of Year awards in 2003. He also set an NCAA record with 51 consecutive starts at quarterback. A potential hiring of Rivers would provide an instant boost to the program with alumni and fans, and boost credibility among recruits. Additionally, a potential father-and-son pairing would be welcome.
