The Company That Built eCourts Will Pay North Carolinians for Problems
Tyler Technologies did not admit to wrongdoing in eCourts settlement, but will create fund to pay plaintiffs. The company behind eCourts, Tyler Technologies, has agreed to pay up to $1.5 million in a class-action settlement over the state's new electric court records system. The settlement comes after a three-year legal battle over the update of an archaic paper-based court system with 21st-century technology. Potential hundreds of North Carolina residents could receive compensation if they meet certain criteria under the class action settlement. The total value of the settlement, including attorney fees and other costs, could reach $2.14 million. All individual claims are capped at $5,000. The agreement requires preliminary approval from a federal judge.
