Mecklenburg County to launch Safe Babies Court
RALEIGH – The N.C. Administrative Office of the Courts and Mecklenburg County are launching Safe Babies Court for child welfare cases. The N.C. The initiative aims to reduce the time young children spend in foster care and improve outcomes for families involved in abuse, neglect and dependency proceedings. The court will bring together judges, parents, social services professionals, and community providers to address the needs of infants, toddlers and their families. The approach includes frequent judicial status conferences, family team meetings and coordinated services to help children reach safe, permanent homes as quickly as possible. Since June 2024, the program has enrolled over 170 children across five sites and significantly improved child permanency outcomes.
