RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Crews in the North Carolina mountains trekked off the Blue Ridge Parkway late Friday afternoon to rescue a fallen hiker, according to Haywood County officials. The inci… Crews in Haywood County, North Carolina, rescued a hiker off the Blue Ridge Parkway near milepost 418.8, about 35 miles southwest of Asheville. The incident occurred around 5 p.m. near the Graveyard Fields Loop Trail off the parkway. More than 15 people from various agencies responded to the rescue. A helicopter from Mountain Area Medical Airlift landed on a nearby Blue Ridge Park overlook to take the victim to a hospital. Other agencies involved in the rescue included the U.S. Forest Service, Cruso Fire & Rescue, Haywood county Emergency Services, Henderson County Rescue Squad and the Transylvania County Rescue squad.
