From the BCS to the CFP: Trends from Miami's last time as AP No. 1

Miami's return to the the top of the AP Poll marks its first No. 1 ranking since January 2003 -- when sports and pop culture looked far different. The last time Miami was ranked No. 1 in the AP Top 25 poll was in January 2003, when the Hurricanes faced Ohio State in the BCS National Championship game. The game ended in a 31-24 double-overtime victory for the Buckeyes. In that year, hip-hop and R&B dominated the charts, with 50 Cent's "In da Club" topping the Billboard Hot 100 and four singles from his debut album "Get Rich or Die Tryin'" making the year-end list. Beyoncé released "Dangerously in Love," launching her solo superstardom, while OutKast's "Speakerboxxx/The Love Below" album released on Sept. 23, 2003. The NBA ushered in a new era with the arrival of LeBron James, who was drafted No.1 overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers. Serena Williams continued a dominant run in tennis, winning the Australian Open women's singles title and defending her Wimbledon crown. The San Antonio Spurs won the NBA Finals with Tim Duncan earning Finals MVP honors.
