First Compost Industry Pay Study on Growth, Workforce Flexibility

The US Composting Council's first payroll & benefits study finds a growing industry shaped by small business, lean teams and flexible workforce practices. The US Composting Council (USCC) has launched its first-ever payroll and benefits study, which compared salaries and benefits to others in their region and size categories. The study was launched to enable USCC members to benchmark salaries and benefit against others in the industry. It found that job titles and duties are diverse across the industry to accommodate fast-growing organizations. Responders included private companies, publicly run facilities, and non-profit organizations. The report can be downloaded on USCC's website. There is currently no comprehensive national or federal data about the composting industry. An economic study conducted in 2021 showed that the industry had grown 55% by facility numbers and 83% in tonnage processed.
