Truck driver charged after bank robbery and shootout
RALEIGH — A United States Magistrate Judge signed a complaint on Dec. 27 charging Willie Edward Mcgee Jr. with bank robbery and discharging a firearm in furtherance of a crime Willie Edward Mcgee Jr. has been charged with bank robbery and discharging a firearm in relation to a crime of violence. The complaint alleges that Mcgee demanded $3,234 from a First Citizens Bank in Zebulon, North Carolina, under the threat of exploding C-4. After fleeing the bank, police located Mcgee's semi-truck and he exited armed with a Ruger AR 5.56 rifle and began firing at them. Officers returned fire and Mcgee was hit by the gunfire. Mcgee is currently facing up to 20 years in prison on the bank robbery charge and a mandatory minimum of 10 years on the discharging firearm charge.
