Breeze Airways, a Salt Lake City-based low-fare airline, has unveiled plans to initiate nonstop service between Raleigh-Durham International Airport and San Diego International Airport from April 30. The move is a strategic response to the heightened demand for direct flights to San Diego, currently the most sought-after destination from Raleigh-Durham without nonstop service. The airline is also poised to start nonstop flights to Westchester County Airport, serving the New York City metropolitan area, beginning May 3.

The new service is positioned to fill the void left by Frontier Airlines, which halted its San Diego route in 2019. Notably, Breeze Airways has carved a niche for itself by flying routes often ignored by other carriers and has seen rapid expansion of its operations since its inaugural flight at Raleigh-Durham. This growth is a testament to Breeze’s strategy to serve underserved destinations and cater to leisure travelers, creating a unique value proposition in the marketplace.

As part of its significant West Coast expansion, Breeze Airways is introducing five new routes to San Diego International Airport, including nonstop flights from Raleigh-Durham. Other routes to Jacksonville, Florida; Norfolk, Virginia; Cincinnati; and Pittsburgh will be launched shortly after the Raleigh-Durham service begins. The airline is also set to start services between Westchester County, New York, and Raleigh-Durham; Cincinnati and Hartford; and Charleston and Los Angeles. Breeze Airways is marketing the new routes with introductory fares starting at a competitive $59 each way.

Breeze Airways operates on a low-cost model, offering three fare options and frequent sales, further solidifying its reputation as a customer-centric airline. The carrier has ambitious plans to expand its footprint, with upcoming non-stop flights from San Diego to Raleigh-Durham, Cincinnati, Jacksonville, Pittsburgh, and Norfolk. Furthermore, it intends to launch services between Los Angeles and Charleston, Raleigh-Durham and Westchester in New York, and Cincinnati and Hartford, reinforcing its commitment to connecting underserved markets.
